Field Machining

Field machining is the process of performing machining operations in a location away from the shop or workplace. It involves the use of portable tools and equipment to carry out machining tasks in an on-site location. Field machining is used to modify or repair components in-place, instead of bringing them to a shop. This can save time and money, and reduce downtime. Field machining utilizes portable tools and equipment to perform machining tasks. Portable machining tools are typically smaller and lighter than conventional machining tools, making them suitable for use in remote locations. Portable machining can be used to perform a variety of tasks, including cutting, drilling, milling, welding, threading, and surface finishing.

Equipment used in field and portable machining includes:

  • Portable drill press

  • Portable milling machine

  • Portable lathe

  • Portable welding and cutting equipment

  • Portable grinders

  • Portable boring bars

  • Portable threading equipment

  • Portable measuring equipment
